Gwangju City Wishes for the Success of the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) Conference, One Year Ahead

[Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province = Newsis] Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province, which won the bid to host the 'World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) Conference,' will present a diverse range of performances from the 11th of this month to the 17th of next month, one year ahead of the festival.


[Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province = Newsis] By Shin Jeong-hoon, Journalist - Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province, which won the bid to host the 'World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) Conference,' will present diverse performances from the 11th of this month to the 17th of next month at venues such as Namhansanseong Art Hall.


This performance is intended to commemorate the hosting of a large-scale international event and to promote the event to the public. The city will hold concerts four times, starting with the first performance at Namhansanseong Art Hall in Songjeong-dong, Gwangju City on the 11th, followed by performances on the 13th, 15th, and next month's 17th.


This performance will feature various renowned domestic and international art groups, including the '2024 WASBE Gwangju Festival Wind Orchestra,' a project band formed to showcase the excellence of Korean wind music, as well as Kim Deok-soo Samulnori-pae, Gwangju Civic Philharmonic Orchestra, and Spanish Brass, presenting diverse performance programs.


The '2024 WASBE Gwangju' event, which will be held for five days from July 16th to 20th next year, is a biennial music festival with the participation of more than 50 countries. It is commonly referred to as the 'Wind Band Olympics.'


This 20th edition of the event is expected to be the largest in history, with more than 20,000 visitors, including over 1,000 musicians and music-related organizations from over 50 countries.


Currently, it is known that the city has secured 2.5 billion won out of a total project budget of 10 billion won.


Colleen Richardson, President of WASBE, who visited Gwangju, expressed her joy, stating, "I am thrilled that the conference is taking place in Asia after 13 years," and added, "The World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) Conference is being held for the first time in South Korea. I expect it to be a perfect event that combines Gwangju's history and beautiful nature."


Mayor Bang Se-hwan stated, "One year ahead of this global event, we are doing our best to ensure a safe and flawless event," and added, "Through this event, we will contribute to the activation of tourism and the economic development of Gwangju City, and strive to leap into a global cultural city.
