The World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE), a music festival held every two years, will be held in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province in July next year.
The WASBE Conference is a music festival where conductors, musicians, composers, and other professionals from symphonic bands around the world gather to present high-quality performances and related events.
Gwangju City successfully won the bid to host the conference by sending a delegation to the Prague Conference held in the Czech Republic last July.
Mayor Bang Se-hwan, the chairman of the organizing committee, expressed his determination to take advantage of the hosting of the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference as an opportunity for Gwangju to leap into an international cultural city.
<Bang Se-hwan / Mayor of Gwangju> "Through the preparation for the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference next year, we will create an opportunity for the revitalization of the local economy and the development of tourism resources, and grow as a global cultural city."
To check the preparations for the conference one year before its opening, Colleen Richardson, the president of the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, visited Gwangju, and a commemorative concert was held accordingly.
The 'Gwangju Festival Wind Orchestra,' a project band composed of renowned musicians in the symphonic band industry, made its debut, and performances by Kim Deok-soo Samulnori Group were also showcased.
Furthermore, additional performances will take place on the 13th and 15th of this month, as well as on August 15th, at venues such as Namhansanseong Art Hall and Cheongseok Park.
<Oh Se-young / CEO of Gwangju Cultural Foundation> "On this D-1 Year of the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference, as well as on the path leading to the conference, we ask for your attention and love."
Next year's World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference is expected to be the largest ever, with over 20,000 musicians, music enthusiasts, and tourists from more than 50 countries in attendance.
